First Annual Yahoo-University of Nebraska Omaha Advertising Challenge Includes PST Intern
Yahoo’s first annual marketing and advertising challenge on November, 12, will include students from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Sara Atkins, a PST marketing communications intern, has been chosen to be one of the 12 students hand-picked by the Public Relations and Advertising faculty.
Over the past five years, Sara has spent her time mentoring students from her learning community- Thompson Learning Community (Susan Thompson Buffett Scholarship) and participating in various fundraisers through UNO’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). PRSSA allowed Sara to network, as well as meet prominent business icons such as Susie Buffett. Outside of her volunteering, she has completed marketing and promotional programs for consulting clients including Fastenal, Streck Laboratories, the Nebraska Organ Recovery System, the Omaha Sports Commission, the Latino Center for the Midlands and the Omaha Jitterbugs, where she was instrumental in doing the design and creation of web pages, advertising plans, retail location P.O.S. promotions, and an HR recruiting promotional program.
As part of the Yahoo, one-day business strategy competition, the selected students will be provided with a unique marketing challenge specific to Yahoo. The students will
then break into teams and create innovative solutions, which will be presented and judged the following day. To be invited as a participant in this challenge, students must have attained junior or senior level standing, be a marketing or advertising related major and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Sara is currently on her final year at UNO, majoring in Journalism and Media Communications, and minoring in French. She hopes to work for PS Technology full-time upon graduation.
